Farm Fair
Problem Space
For many university students, the cost of food can be a significant financial burden. As they often have limited financial resources and are faced with high tuition fees and living expenses, the cost of food can be a major source of stress and can impact their overall health and well-being.
Understanding the relationship between food-cost pressure and health among university students is crucial for identifying effective strategies to promote healthy eating habits and mitigate the negative effects of financial strain on their health and well-being.

Based on the design brief and our understanding of the problem, we were able to break it down into simpler components. Utilising relevant literature to support our arguments, we then used those arguments to further develop a potential solution plan.
Concept Prototyping
For the concept prototype, we (Me) made an interactive Powerpoint file with a map of the farm fair that is to be held in front of the Quadrangle Building at the University of Sydney. The venue basically consists of four areas, featuring fresh produce, fun & games, tools & materials, and courses & entertainment respectively, which were further illustrated by a series of comics.

The development phase required us to go through multiple design processes like brain writing, crazy 8s, decision matrix and then finally creating multiple iterations of our selected idea.
Brainwriting

Crazy 8’s

Decision Matrix
We assume the short-term goal of this event is to provide fresh produce at lower prices and teach students how to cook them at home in a time-saving and healthy manner. The long-term goal, on the other hand, is to inspire and educate them to conduct self-farming in the future.

Limitations
Our final design or solution does have limitations, some of which could be resolved and some which could be out of our hands. No guarantee as to if anyone would be inspired to learn the art of farming and apply it in practicality.
Asking farmers to bring their equipment, cattle, and taking time off their schedule to arrange such events throughout the year. Getting the required permission from all the authorities. Convincing farmers and other organisers to be a part of the fair. Students need to buy land to farm but these students do not have the finances to buy land.
There are various other issues or limitations that may arise once the farm fair is being organised and we as a collective will have to resolve them along the way.
Reflection

The whole research process involved us going back to the problem space and making sure we do not move away from the actual problem at hand and not just focus on the solution. We agreed that the whole process is iterative and changes can occur at any given stage of the design process.
